Min Ray
Editor's note
Min is an emerging visual artist based in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. She studied at Melbourne Polytechnic and the Northern College of Arts and Technology from early 2018 to late 2020. Whilst studying, she received an outstanding achievement award and an Excellence Award from Melbourne Polytechnic. When Min discovered ways of crafting visual stories via abstraction and the power of colours, she found her own creative voice and a way of validating her unique presence in the world. Using her signature painting style, hard-edge geometric abstraction, Min tells stories via bold colours, geometric shapes, architectural forms and structured patterns. Her work is informed by the traditions of early to mid-20th century movements and styles such as Bauhaus, Color Field, Op Art and Minimalism. These equipped her with more abstract lenses through which to view the world. Min intends to portray the interior and exterior sites and subjective experiences and memories through abstract paintings by deeply engaging with the psychology of colour and the symbolism of geometric forms.
