Bio
In his work, Dutch artist Daniel Martin explores the transmutational properties of matter. His sculptural artworks do not have a fixed form but are open to interpretation and transformation. To create his pieces, Martin follows the principles of change and mistakes, by cutting up paintings, using objects found on the street or creations made by others. These separate elements he uses as disjointed brushstrokes that are reassembled in somewhat recognizable shapes to create a new kind of object. His thus deformed and recreated portraits seem to tell a tale of undiscovered human artefacts and transmutation.
Martin’s work has been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally. Exhibitions include: the National Museum of Revolution, Cuba; Duo Phillip Akkerman, Sis Josip Gallery, Den Haag; Havana Biënnale; Forma prima, El pez soluble Gallery, Mexico and Bloom, Booth Gallery, New York.
The artist currently lives and works in Leiden, the Netherlands.
