Bio

In his works, Shipton seeks to uncover the gem-like quality that can be found in the everyday items that surround us, the things that, when we were a child, held such a magical aura. To emphasise this aspect, he presents his subjects in a realistic manner yet simultaneously gives them a surrealist quality by playing with scale and perspective. This seemingly contradictory approach is a recurring theme throughout his work.

In doing so, he is asking the viewer one fundamental question: “How do you view the world?”

After having worked in painting for many years, Daniel Shipton discovered coloured pencil. This new technique enabled the artist to execute his works with a certain detailed precision, whilst showcasing the full potential of this unusual medium which is often overlooked in the context of fine art.
