Bio
Valérian Lenud, or Valé, is a French artist, based in Mexico City after over a decade of travel. During this time, the artist has developed an artistic style that combines figurative compositions with pop-graffiti aesthetics. He creates both murals in urban envoronments and works on canvas.
Employing various techniques, his work is constructed with numerous layers of hand-cut stencils, painted with a mix of aerosol, brushes, palette knives and markers. Within this practice he combines chaotic shapes, multicolored backgrounds and subtle shading to create captivating portraits.
Lenud’s work contrasts recognizable pop culture iconography with the imagery of local culture in order to portray the multifaceted identity of each society he encountered during his travels around the world. With this juxtaposition, the artist aims to pay tribute to urban art by contrasting the grey of the streets with an intense colour palette, showcasing the vibrancy of life and presenting a mirror to our common humanity.
Over the course of his career, Valérian Lenud has collaborated with numerous galleries, social projects, festivals, and commercial brands. He exhibited in Carré d’Artistes in New-York and Amsterdam, Baga06 in México, Galerie Saint Martin in Saint-Tropez or Courchevel, and Galerie Sonia Monti in Paris. He has furthermore been covered by Forbes, StreetArt NYC, Konbini, C’est de l’Art, Cultura Colectiva and has received commissions from Jaguar Land Rover, Montana Colors, Comex or Santander.
The artist currently lives and works in Mexico City.
