Bio

As a child, Croatian artist Silvija Kicivoj used art as a means to escape reality, and during her studies in textile and fashion in Düsseldorf it was her creative outlet. Today, it is her tool for self-reflection and communication. Current social issues find their way into her work but the pieces do not offer any answers; they just ask the relevant questions and invite the viewer to formulate their own interpretation. Inspired by nature and her everyday environment, the artist strongly focuses on the interplay between colour, shape, and texture which is the result of a strictly controlled and thought-out process in which nothing is left to chance.

''The line serves as the basic form in my works. Lines can do a lot or little - they create shapes and objects, set limits or guide the way. They are soft and organic or sharp and angular, and stand out or disappear through fine textures or monochrome surfaces.''
