A Western Kazakhstan native, Lyazzat Khanim graduated from The UNESCO Art School in Astana in 2012 and went on to receive her BFA from Parsons The New School for Design in New York in 2017. Upon graduation, Khanim founded the eco-friendly brand “5:45 AM”, which strongly focuses on the philosophy of minimalism. After having worked as a fashion designer in New York for a while, Khanim decided to move to Istanbul to work on her graphic design skills and bring her creative ideas to life. Inspired by the diverse cities she has lived in, Khanim continues her creative explorations today, by delving into the medium of contemporary painting.

Khanim’s hyper-realistic artworks concentrate on the simplicity and beauty of our daily environments, infused with an occasional venture into the surreal. Her work depicts thought-provoking glimpses of simple objects that seem to have escaped everyday reality, which evokes feelings of disturbance and displacement but also triggers a sense of fascination. Some of her work addresses the subject of consumer culture, but the artist’s main interest lies in an ongoing attempt to archive fragments of ‘being’ by giving her personal experiences a public dimension and vice versa.

Khanim currently lives and works in Astana, Kazakhstan.
