Katie Voyt

Russian-American, 1984

Katie Voyt creates captivating abstract paintings in which she plays with transparency, geometrical forms and a variety of textures and materials such as acrylics, oil pastels, graphite, and markers.

Her paintings are bold, free, and evocative. They defy the boundaries of the rectangular frame, creating a sense of movement and energy in the space around them. The artist has consciously moved away from the traditional rectangular shape and its historical reference to a window, which places the viewer outside the work looking in. Instead, she gives a unique shape to her observations, thoughts and memories, creating a dialogue with both the viewer and the architectural space surrounding the piece.

The artist currently paints from her home studio in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
