Bio

Doris Schamp studied Art and Communication as well as Art Education at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. The artist works in various disciplines such as drawing, painting, cartooning, and sculpting. Her main subject of investigation is the human being, its environment, and tabus surrounding the body.

In the series presented here, she illustrates friends as nude figures in a pose of their choosing, creating start black and white contrasts and ignoring the specific bodily characteristics of the individual. She rather sees her models as an inspiration for new forms, while their persona disappears behind an anonymous figure. Undefined faces and unfinished body parts provide a glimpse into an intimate moment in which her subjects have the freedom to present themselves in their unique way.

Champ's artworks have been shown at Building Bridges Art Exchange, Los Angeles, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Queer Art Spaces Vienna, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, the Landesgalerie Burgenland, and the Karikaturmuseum Krems. She furthermore won the International Cartoon Prize of Aachen in 2013. The artist currently lives and works in Vienna and in Bramberg in the Alps.
