Delphine Alphonse was born in the Paris region, yet she creates artworks that show the impactful influence of her Caribbean heritage. From an early age on, the artist was fascinated by imagery and colour, which led her to pursue a degree in photography.
Alphonse's creative process is characterized by randomness and draws from her surroundings, including an abundance of sources of inspiration, techniques, and materials such as: plants, fabrics, collages made from various paper scraps, sewing, and photography. Focusing primarily on female portraiture, the artist's work presents a distinct perspective that highlights the experiences of women of colour.
